A new prepaid phone bill on Amazon is not just for the rich, but for the very poor as well.
The $100 bill from Plusnet, the world’s biggest provider of internet, is the highest paid by consumers, according to the company’s own figures.
Amazon’s website shows the bill is worth $50.99, with a $20 fee.
This is just a fraction of the $10.99 a month Amazon customers pay to use its shopping and streaming services.
In other words, Amazon’s customers get a good deal on a phone, but not a good one on the internet.
“This is a massive, expensive mistake by Amazon,” wrote Sam Biddle, an economics professor at the University of California, Berkeley, in an article published on Tuesday.
“It’s really bad for Amazon, which is paying its own bill.
It’s also bad for consumers.
They’re getting a product they can’t use, not the one they want, at a price they can barely afford.
It shouldn’t be happening.”
Biddle’s article also pointed to Amazon’s recent move to offer a phone bill that is only valid on one device, which it is currently offering for $80.99.
The new phone bill will no longer be available for $99.99 or less.
Plusnet has already been targeted by the US Federal Trade Commission and is trying to fight the move.
It argues that the new bill is a breach of net neutrality rules, which prevent ISPs from blocking, throttling, or charging for specific websites and services.
“We know this isn’t the first time Plusnet’s phone bills have been abused by ISPs, and this isn.t the first phone bill Amazon has sold, either,” Biddle wrote.
“Plusnet has no obligation to make this change and Amazon has no legal duty to make it.
But this is Amazon’s first move into the world of online payment, and it is potentially dangerous.”
Amazon is already the biggest payer of internet service fees in the US.
It pays ISPs a monthly fee for faster internet access, and the company has been using this money to increase its own profits.
The Amazon phone bill has no such restrictions.
Biddle said Plusnet had not seen the Amazon bill until Tuesday and said he thought the company had “an obligation to get this right”.
He added that Amazon was “the worst offender in the industry when it comes to this kind of blatant disregard for consumers and the internet”.
In the US, plusnet charges $30 a month for a phone.
It is available in more than 100 cities in the United States and in countries around the world.
The company said that customers could change the phone bill anytime after paying.
The firm said that Plusnet customers had been “fortunate to get a great deal, with no outages or unexpected charges”.
“We understand the frustration some of our customers may feel as we work to ensure they get a value-for-money deal, and we’re committed to ensuring customers can get what they want,” Plusnet said.
Amazon has not responded to a request for comment.
