The man I met while driving from my hometown in Pennsylvania to a wedding in Maryland was not a big fan of cell phones.
In fact, he was a big proponent of paying for everything with cash.
The man said he’d like to have a phone that he can carry in his pocket, so I asked him to take me to the nearest ATM to pick up some cash.
When we arrived, we found a guy in a white coat who looked to be in his 50s.
The ATM machine was full, but he was still there.
We both went inside and were surprised to find him with a big black umbrella on his lap.
He asked if we were sure we wanted it, to which I said sure.
He took me into the back room and took out the umbrella, and it was perfect for our meeting.
He gave me the card to get the cash out, and he handed it to me.
I took the umbrella and handed it back.
The card said “KEEP IN MIND.”
When I saw the card, I knew I had made a mistake.
He was an old friend of mine, and I didn’t want to be an idiot.
So I handed it over.
It turned out that he was right, the umbrella was perfect.
I have no idea how we ended up there.
I was surprised at how quickly things had turned out, but I had to get back to my job.
The guy in the white coat was a man in his 70s, and his wife had a daughter.
The daughter was a senior in high school, so she didn’t have much time to visit the office or go to the library.
I asked if she could go home for the night.
She said she’d prefer to stay.
She asked me what kind of book I wanted to read, and then she took out her iPad.
The book I requested turned out to be a biography of me.
The two of us had a conversation about it, and she asked me how I felt about the man in the book, and how I could change my life.
The thought that the book had changed my life is the best I’ve ever had.
She told me that she and her husband would be sending a check to me the next day, and that she would be able to change my job so she could get more money to pay her daughter.
We hugged, and we went home.
I’ve never met anyone with such a positive experience, and now I’m so thankful to the man for helping me understand that I was on the right path.
